predicate nominative

A predicate nominative is one of two kinds of complements of linking verbs. The other is a predicate adjective. The only difference between the two is that a predicate nominative is a noun while the predicate adjective is an adjective. A noun functioning as a predicate nominative is always in the nominative case.
